Vince Carter scored 22 points and Shammond Williams added 18 for the Tar Heels (12-0), who gave coach Bill Guthridge a victory in his first conference game and made his counterpart, Steve Robinson, a loser in his ACC debut for the Seminoles (8-2). The Tar Heels improved to 7-0 when scoring 80 or more points, though they allowed Florida State to become the second team to break the 70-point barrier on them this season. North Carolina is off to its best start since going 21-0 in the 1985-86 season. LaMarr Greer scored 17 points for Florida State, which had its four-game winning streak halted and fell to 5-21 all-time against UNC, including a 4-11 mark in ACC games. North Carolina shot 57 percent (31-of-54) from the field, led by Carter's 10-of-12 effort and a 9-of-16 performace by Jamison. The Tar Heels held Florida State to 44 percent shooting (26-of-59). Randell Jackson chipped in 16 points and five rebounds, Kerry Thompson added 11 points and four assists, and Terrell Baker had 10 points for the Seminoles.
