TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Tim Pickett scored 16 points Sunday to lead Florida State 79-46 over Savannah State in the teams' season opener.
Andrew Wilson added 11 points and Anthony Richardson 10 in the non-conference victory at the Tallahassee-Leon County Civic Center.
While first-year Seminoles coach Leonard Hamilton was pleased to open with a win, it was not indicative of the competition his team faces in the Atlantic coast Conference.
Florida State defeated the Tigers 93-41 in last year's opener.
Chris Daniel scored 10 and Carlos Smalls, Rafael Sharper and Jamal Daniels added 7 each to pace Savannah State, an independent that finished 2-26 last season.
Pickett was one of the team's best perimeter shooters in the Seminoles' two exhibition games but hit just two of 12 tries from three-point range.
The Seminoles held a 36-18 lead at halftime.
