ON PORTUONDO: One of the Seminoles' hardest working players who is in his second season as a member of the Florida State basketball team...always one of the first players on the court before all practices and each and every game to perfect his shooting and dribbling techniques...a member of the Seminoles' 2011 NCAA Tournament team that advanced to the Sweet 16 and finished the season with a 23-11 overall record...will look to help Florida State to a school record fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance in his second season as a Seminole in 2012... earned a roster spot as a walk on after spending his first two seasons at Miami Dade Community College...he played in one season during his career at Miami Dade after redshirting as a freshman...has two years of eligibility remaining as a junior member of the Seminole men's basketball team...helped Florida State to four wins over nationally ranked teams in his first season including no. 1 ranked Duke and No. 5 ranked Notre Dame in the third round of the NCAA Tournament...the Seminoles also defeated No. 15 ranked Baylor and No. 20 ranked Texas A&M during the season...it marked the first time since the 2003-04 season that Florida State had defeated as many as four ranked teams in one season...his work as a top notch practice player also helped Florida State continue its dominance as the nation's best and most feared defensive team... the Seminoles are the top defensive team in the nation and have led the nation in field goal percentage defense in both of the last two years with Shannon in the line-up...Florida State led the nation and the ACC with a .363 mark - the second consecutive season they have led the nation in the most telling defensive statistic kept by the NCAA...the Seminoles are the first team to repeat as the field goal percentage national champions since Marquette in the 1993 and 1994 seasons...Florida State's .363 mark ranks as the fourth lowest mark by a leader in the category since the NCAA began compiling the statistic in 1977...Florida State is only the sixth team in NCAA history to repeat at the field goal percentage defensive national champions...the Seminoles finished the 2010-11 season ranked No. 19 in the final ESPN/USA Today Poll of the year...

AS A SOPHOMORE (2011): Averaged 0.6 points (13th on the team) and 0.4 rebounds (14th) as he played in five games during the first season of his Seminole career...helped the Seminoles advance to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 1993 season and for the fourth time in school history...played in three non conference wins and in two ACC victories over Wake Forest...playing time came for the first time in his Seminole career in Florida State's victory over UNC Greensboro (Nov. 18)...earned one minute of playing time in the Seminoles' 97-73 win over the Spartans at the Greensboro Coliseum - the storied home of numerous ACC Tournaments...earned playing time in an ACC game for the first time in his career against Wake Forest as he appeared in both of the Seminoles' games against the Deacons...scored points in two different games - in the Seminoles' victory of Florida International (Nov. 18) and in the Seminoles' ACC victory over Wake Forest in Tallahassee...earned career statistics for field goals made (one), field goals attempted (three) and offensive rebounds (one) while tying his career high of 3-point field goals attempted (one) and total rebounds (one) against the Panthers...the Seminoles' 89-66 victory over the Panthers came in his home town of Miami, Fla., and came in front of members of his family and circle of friends...the first basket of his career came as the Seminoles' final basket of the game in their win over the Panthers...his basket made the score 89-66...the tip-in basket also allowed Portuondo to earn the first offensive rebound of his career on a missed field goal attempt by teammate A.J. Yawn...one 3-point field goal attempted in four of the five games in which he earned playing time -- at Florida International, Stetson at home, Wake Forest in Tallahassee and against Wake Forest in Winston Salem...his one minute of playing time against Wake Forest in Winston Salem stands as his first game played on the road in ACC play...his career high of three minutes of playing time came in Florida State's 97-63 win over Stetson in Tallahassee (Dec. 15)...(vs. Wake Forest): Averaged 0.5 points and 0.5 rebounds in two games against Wake Forest during the regular season... scored one point as he made one of two free throws in Florida State's win over Wake Forest at home (Feb. 1)...he made one of two free throws against the Deacons with 24 seconds remaining in the game to give the Seminoles an 83-61 advantage..

AT CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS: Graduated from Christopher Columbus High School in Miami in 2008...earned two varsity letters and was the team captain during his senior season...played in the Dade vs. Broward County and the Dade County private school all-star game following his senior season...averaged 10.0 points, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game as a starter and a senior captain...earned the Sportsmanship Award from the coaching staff following his junior and senior seasons...named as the teams' Most Improved Player following his junior season...was also a letterwinner as a member of the track and field team and participated in the events of the 100 and 200 meter sprints and the long jump.
