The defending national champion Texas Longhorns (47-18) took the first game of the 2003 NCAA Tallahassee Super Regional 8-3. The Longhorns utilized a stellar outing by starter J.P. Howell and multi-RBI games by Eric Sultemeier and Omar Quintanilla to down the tournament's top-seed Florida State (54-12-1).

For a record 30th time in program history the University of Texas is heading to Omaha, NE for the College World Series. The Horns swept Florida State at the 2003 Tallahassee Super Regional closing out the series with a 6-5 win Monday night. Texas has now earned the right to defend its 2002 national title and will open CWS play with 2001 national champion Miami.
