TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State's Luke Weaver received some exciting news this week as he will get an opportunity to represent the United States in 2013 accepting an invitation to play with the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team this summer as announced by USA Baseball.

"To be given this opportunity, I am truly honored," said Weaver. "This is something that people always dream of and something that I have dreamt of since I was young. I didn't hesitate to make my decision. I will proudly wear the USA across my chest and have the experience of a lifetime."

Weaver closed out the 2013 campaign with a 7-2 record and a 2.29 ERA in 17 appearances including 15 starts. He led the team in innings pitched (98.1) and strikeouts (119) while holding opponents to a .221 average.

"I have had the pleasure of telling a number of our players that they had been chosen to play with the USA Team, but I can't remember anyone's face lighting up like Luke Weaver's did," said head coach Mike Martin. "He is a proud American and is looking forward to representing his country this summer as a member of the USA Collegiate National Team."

The Deland, Fla., native moved into the Seminoles' weekend rotation on April 5 at Miami and remained in that role the rest of the season. He threw 7.0 or more innings in six of his last nine starts, while striking out eight or more hitters nine times this year. Weaver had a career day against Troy in the NCAA Tallahassee Regional as he struck out a career-high 14 batters over a career-high 8.0 innings of work.

Weaver's 119 strikeouts stand as the third best total in the ACC in 2013. Following the NCAA Super Regionals, Weaver ranks nationally in strikeouts (9th), strikeouts per nine innings (10.89 - 11th), strikeout-to-walk ratio (6.26 - 13th) and WHIP (0.99 - 38th).

He was named to the 2013 All-ACC second team while his efforts against Troy in the NCAA Tournament led to him being named the regional's Most Outstanding Player.

Weaver becomes the 16th Seminole to play for Team USA and the first since Sean Gilmartin in 2010.

Team USA will hold a 12-day training session (June 21 - July 2) at the National Training Complex in Cary, N.C. before heading to Japan on July 6-11 for its first international competition of the summer.
