Super Regional Game Notes vs. Indiana

Super Regional Central

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State's quest for its first national championship continues this weekend on Mike Martin Field inside Dick Howser Stadium when the Seminoles (47-15) take on Indiana (46-14) in the NCAA Tallahassee Super Regional. The best-of-three game series begins Saturday, June 8 at 12:00 p.m. on ESPNU with the winner of the series advancing to Omaha and the College World Series.

FSU and Indiana are meeting for the first time in the postseason, but have met on six prior occasions with the Seminoles claiming a win each time out. Florida State last faced Indiana in 2007 during a three-game regular season series in Tallahassee. The Seminoles swept the series outscoring the Hoosiers 23-2.

The Hoosiers, champions of the Big Ten Conference, come to Tallahassee winners of four in a row and eight of their last nine. Indiana enters the Super Regional with the sixth best ERA (2.56) in the nation, while the team ranks 21st nationally in hitting with a .306 average. Florida State is no stranger to playing Big Ten schools in the postseason facing five other schools in the past. The Seminoles are 4-3 all-time against the Big Ten in the NCAA Tournament with all three losses coming at the CWS. FSU has faced Illinois (1-0), Michigan (0-1), Minnesota (1-0), Ohio State (2-1) and Penn State (0-1). The last Big Ten school FSU faced in the postseason was Ohio State in the 2009 Tallahassee Regional championship game.

In Super Regional action, FSU boasts an all-time record of 13-17 (.433) including a mark of 12-11 on its home turf.

The Seminoles are 5-7 all-time in the best-of-three format collecting series victories against Auburn (2-0) in 1999, Miami (2-1) in 2000, Wichita State (2-1) in 2008, Vanderbilt (2-1) in 2010 & Stanford (2-0) in 2012 all at home.

The 2008 series against Wichita State marked the first time since the Super Regional format began in 1999 that Florida State lost the opening round game to only come back and win the series.

FSU is hosting a super regional for the 10th time in 13 all-time appearances since the NCAA Tournament moved to Super Regional play in 1999. The Seminoles have advanced to the CWS as a host of a Super Regional five times (1999, 2000, 2008, 2010 & 2012). The 10 all-time Super Regional appearances are the most of any team in the nation, while the Seminoles' six straight trips to the Supers is the longest active streak in the nation.

The Seminoles will send out RHP Luke Weaver (7-2, 1.95 ERA) in game one, while the Hoosiers will start LHP Joey DeNato (9-2, 2.65 ERA). Game two, which is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. first pitch on Sunday, June 9, will feature RHP Scott Sitz (10-1, 1.59 ERA) and IU's RHP Aaron Slegers (9-1, 1.94 ERA). The second game of the series will air live on ESPNU. The `if necessary' game will be held on Monday, June 10 with a start time tentatively scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
