Game Notes vs UCF

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Fourth-ranked Florida State (39-12) returns home to play the final four games of the 2014 regular season this week. The Seminoles will first host UCF (32-20) on Tuesday, May 13 for Fan Appreciation Day with free admission to the ballgame. First pitch on Mike Martin Field inside Dick Howser Stadium is set for 1:00 p.m.

Tuesday's match-up marks the third time these two schools have met this year as the Seminoles defeated UCF during a two-game mid-week series down in Orlando back in March.

In game one, FSU stormed back after being down three runs twice in the game and then hung on for the 11-10 victory. In game two, the Seminoles defeated the Knights 18-1, scoring four or more runs in an inning two times en route to their largest margin of victory in the series. During the two-game mid-week series earlier this year, Florida State outscored UCF 29-11.

Since the resumption of the series in 2011, six of the 10 games have been decided by four runs or less including four one-run games - all wins for FSU. FSU leads the all-time series 28-5 including a mark of 21-3 in Tallahassee. The Seminoles have won the last eight games in the series and four in a row over the Knights on their home turf.

Prior to the 2011 series in Tallahassee, the two schools had not met during the regular season since March 10, 1993. The eight meetings between 1997 and 2004 all occurred in an NCAA Regional played in Tallahassee.

Pitching Match-up:
Tuesday, 1 pm: FSU - LHP, Alec Byrd (1-0, 1.08 ERA) vs. UCF - RHP, Ryan Meyer (3-1, 2.15 ERA)

When FSU faces UCF this week it will mark the final school that the Seminoles will face during the regular season from the newly formed American Athletic Conference (AAC). Florida State is 4-0 against AAC schools in 2014 with two wins each against UCF and USF. The Seminoles own an all-time record of 179-41 against the AAC with the most wins against USF (70).

Freshman Alec Byrd will make his first career start on Tuesday afternoon. Byrd is 1-0 with a 1.08 ERA in seven appearances this year. The southpaw from Miami Shores, Fla., has allowed just one earned run in 8.1 innings of work giving up eight hits and four walks, while striking out eight. He registered his first career win in game one of a doubleheader against Minnesota on May 3.
