TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Top-ranked Florida State (36-7) will hit the road for the first time in over two weeks as the Seminoles make the trek east on I-10 to face the Jacksonville Dolphins (14-31) on Wednesday, May 2 at 6:00 p.m.
Wednesday night's game marks the 156th all-time meeting between these intra-state rivals as FSU leads the all-time series 118-37. The Seminoles have fared well on the road against the Dolphins posting a record of 40-25 winning two in a row and three of the last four in Jacksonville. Overall, the Seminoles have won four in a row and six of the last seven against JU.
The series has been closely contested as of late with 11 of the last 17 games decided by three runs or less including six of the last seven meetings. FSU is 8-3 in those games decided by three runs or less dating back to 2006.
In the first meeting back in February, Florida State defeated JU 16-9 pounding out 14 hits and drawing 13 walks. The 16 runs were the most scored by FSU in the series since the 2006 Athens Regional when the Seminoles defeated JU 18-0.
The Seminoles broke open a one-run contest scoring six runs in the bottom of the sixth. Jayce Boyd led all players with four hits and five RBI.
Last year, FSU swept the two-game season series defeating the Dolphins 5-3 in Tallahassee and then 8-5 in Jacksonville. Justin Gonzalez and Sherman Johnson both hit .500 and scored three runs over the two games collecting three hits in six at-bats. Gonzalez hit the lone home run of the series for the Seminoles blasting a two-run shot in the ninth inning in Jacksonville.
The Dolphins enter Wednesday's game having lost eight straight and 17 of their last 20. Adam Brett Walker leads JU hitting .339 on the year with eight home runs and 35 RBI.
Florida State will send LHP Brian Busch to the mound for his first start of the season on Wednesday, while JU will start RHP Steven Eagerton.
