TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Fourth-ranked Florida State (31-10) continues its current nine-game home stand this weekend with a three-game series against Le Moyne College (24-23) beginning Friday, April 30 at 6:00 p.m. on Mike Martin Field inside Dick Howser Stadium.
Florida State and Le Moyne College will meet for the first time in school history on Friday. Le Moyne College, out of Syracuse, N.Y., plays as an independent. Both schools started their baseball programs in 1948.
The Dolphins have made 16 NCAA Tournament appearances in the program's 63 year existence with their last berth coming in 2007. Entering the 2010 season, Le Moyne head coach Steve Owens ranked 13th among winningest active coaches by percentage in Division I. In 12 seasons at Le Moyne, Owens has posted a record of 338-213 (.613) including a mark of 24-23 this year.
Le Moyne marks the second school from New York to visit Tallahassee this spring as Hofstra made the trip south during the second week of the season. The Sunshine State's capital city is no stranger to schools from New York as over the past four seasons four schools have made the trip to Tallahassee a total of six times. Those schools include Hofstra (Hempstead, NY) - 2007, 2009, 2010; Siena (Loudonville, NY) - 2007; Marist (Poughkeepsie, NY) - 2009; Le Moyne (Syracuse, NY) - 2010. The Seminoles have posted a combined record of 14-0 against these schools from New York.
When it comes to facing an opponent for the first time Florida State has faired well posting an all-time record of 176-45 (.796).
