Tallahassee, Fla. - The Florida State baseball team returns home for a Tuesday game against Florida to kickoff rivalry week in Tallahassee. The Seminoles and Gators will face off for the third and final time during the regular season, while North Florida makes the trek to Dick Howser Stadium on Wednesday.
In the rubber game of a three-game set, Florida State will look to win its first regular season series against intra-state rival Florida since 2005. The Seminoles lead the all-time series 113-93-1, while FSU holds a 67-36-1 advantage in games played inside Dick Howser Stadium. The Gators have won two straight in Tallahassee and three of the last four. Florida has had the upper hand in the series as of late winning 10 of the last 16 games.
In the first meeting back on March 18, the Gator pitching staff shut down the top offense in the ACC limiting the Seminoles to just one run on six hits in a 6-1 Florida win in Gainesville. Stephen Locke registered the win as he scattered four hits over 5.1 innings. Dennis Guinn provided the lone run for Florida State in the eighth as he drove in Buster Posey on an RBI double. The Seminoles had their scoring opportunities in the game as they left the bases loaded three times in the last four innings while leaving a total of 11 men on base in the loss.
The Seminoles avenged an early season loss using a combination of the short game and long ball to post a 10-2 victory over Florida at the Baseball Grounds in Jacksonville, Fla. Ryan Strauss recorded the win in his first career start against the Gators going seven innings allowing just one run on four hits. He struck out four and walked a season-low one batter. Buster Posey and Tony Delmonico each recorded three hits while Posey, brother Jack and Dennis Guinn collected a pair of RBIs.
Florida State hosts North Florida for the first and only meeting between the two schools and the fourth meeting all-time in the series. FSU leads the overall series 3-0 while all three games have been played on Mike Martin Field. The Seminoles have outscored the Ospreys 36-11 in the three games. This is the third season as a Division I program for North Florida as the Ospreys are a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference. A season ago, UNF finished 24-32 overall and 13-14 in the A-Sun.
