Game Notes vs. Jacksonville

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Fifth-ranked Florida State (27-8) returns home for a one game, mid-week match-up against Jacksonville (12-23) on Tuesday, April 15 at 6:00 pm on Mike Martin Field inside Dick Howser Stadium before hitting the road for a weekend series at Wake Forest.

Tuesday's game, which marks the 160th meeting all-time between these intra-state rivals, is the second and final regular season match-up between these two schools in 2014. Florida State leads the all-time series 122-37 including a mark of 78-12 in Tallahassee.

The Seminoles enter the game winners of eight in a row over the Dolphins including four straight victories in Tallahassee.

Back in February, Florida State went to Jacksonville and defeated the Dolphins 12-6 in front of a sellout crowd of 3,000. The Seminoles rallied late scoring nine unanswered runs over the final four innings to secure the win. John Sansone sparked the come-from-behind victory with a two-run home run in the sixth. Both Sansone and DJ Stewart had three hits apiece in the win.

Billy Strode, Tuesday night's starter, threw 2.0 shutout innings in relief as he struck out five of the eight batters that he faced. Strode will be opposed by Jacksonville's Zach Gordon, who is 2-5 with a 4.31 ERA in 16 appearances including three starts.

Florida State has not dropped a regular season series to Jacksonville since 1991 when the Dolphins won the only meeting that year in Tallahassee, 7-4. Since that loss, Florida State has secured 18 of the last 22 series victories against Jacksonville with four ties.

JU's last win in Tallahassee came on April 14, 2010 as the Dolphins defeated the Seminoles 10-8.

The series has been closely contested as of late with 13 of the last 21 games decided by three runs or less including eight of the last 11. Three of the last four games played in Tallahassee have been decided by three runs or less.

Tuesday's game will air live on ESPN3 with Tom Block and Chip Baker providing all the live, in-game action.
