Game Notes vs. Florida

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State (27-5) welcomes Florida (15-18) to Tallahassee on Tuesday, April 9 as the two schools square-off for the third and final time during the regular season in 2013. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Mike Martin Field inside Dick Howser Stadium with the game broadcasting live on ESPN3.

The Seminoles are in search of their first series sweep of the Gators since 2002 when FSU won both meetings (5-4 in Gainesville and 9-4 in Tallahassee). The last regular-season sweep of three or more games by the Seminoles over the Gators came in 2000 when FSU took two games in Gainesville (15-6 & 17-8) and the other two in Tallahassee (6-2 & 8-7).

Florida State snapped a three-game losing streak to Florida back in March as FSU went into Gainesville and defeated UF 4-1 behind an outstanding pitching performance from Luke Weaver. The sophomore right hander held the Gators to just one run on three hits in 6.1 innings. The win also marked the first for the Seminoles inside McKethan Stadium since 2007.

Thanks to a 2-1 victory over Florida at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville on March 26, FSU clinched the season series from its intra-state rival. The Seminoles have won the season series from the Gators in four of the last six seasons. FSU improved to 5-2 all-time against Florida in Jacksonville. The three combined runs scored by both teams in Jacksonville were the fewest runs put up by both teams since a 2-1 victory by FSU in Tallahassee back on March 10, 1995.

Weaver was once again outstanding on the mound holding the Gators to just one run on three hits in 6.0 innings. He tied a career-high with nine strikeouts despite not factoring into the decision.

Giovanny Alfonzo has three hits in the series, all singles, and has driven in three of FSU's six runs.

FSU has won two of its last three games over the Gators in Tallahassee as all three games have been decided by three runs or less. The Seminoles lead the all-time series 125-100-1, while FSU has held the upper hand inside the friendly confines of Dick Howser Stadium posting an all-time record of 71-38-1.

Tuesday marks the 227th meeting between these two schools as FSU is 29-19 over the last 48 games. The series has been closely contested since 2008 as 14 of the 21 games during that span have been decided by three runs or less. FSU owns a record of 9-5 in those 14 games.

RHP Peter Miller will make his debut against Florida on Tuesday night. The Lutz, Fla., native is 3-1 with a 3.77 ERA in seven starts this year. Miller will make his first mid-week start of the year on Tuesday. Florida has yet to name its starter for Tuesday.
