TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State junior outfielder Tyler Holt has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Co-Player of the Week, sharing the award with Georgia Tech's Derek Dietrich. Virginia Tech's Justin Wright earned Pitcher of the Week honors.
Holt led Florida State to a perfect week including a weekend series sweep at home against Maryland to climb within one game of the ACC Atlantic Division lead. Holt hit .429 in the four games last week reaching base in every game while scoring at least one run.
The product of Gainesville, Fla., put the finishing touches on a fantastic week hitting for the cycle in the series finale against Maryland on Sunday. Holt achieved the cycle in his first four at-bats collecting a single down the right field foul line in the first, a double down the left field foul line in the second, a triple to gap in left center in the third and a home run to left in the fifth. He finished the afternoon 4-for-5, a season-high for hits, with three runs and two RBI. Holt becomes the first Seminole to hit for the cycle since Stephen Drew performed the feat against Wake Forest on May 20, 2004.
Holt also registered home runs in back-to-back games against the Terps and with four on the season is within one of matching his season-high of five set as a sophomore in 2009. He was a perfect 8-for-8 in fielding opportunities over the weekend.
Holt and the Seminoles return to the diamond on Tuesday, March 30 at 7:00 p.m. as Florida State faces Florida at the Baseball Grounds in Jacksonville. This marks the third meeting between these two schools as the regular season series is tied at a game apiece.
