Game Notes vs. Stetson

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - No. 5 Florida State (18-1) returns home after a four-game road swing to face Stetson (10-9) for a two-game mid-week series inside Dick Howser Stadium beginning Tuesday, March 19. Both games of the series will start at 4:00 p.m.

The Seminoles lead the all-time series 48-22 and own a record of 30-13 on Mike Martin Field. Last year, Florida State took 3-of-4 from Stetson winning both games in Tallahassee while splitting a pair in DeLand. The Seminoles outscored the Hatters 40-16 during the four-game series in 2012. FSU has won 10 of its last 11 games against Stetson in Tallahassee dating back to 1992.

This year marks the fourth time since 2005 that FSU and Stetson will square-off four times in the same year with two games being played at each school's home turf (2005, 2008 and 2012). Florida State is 11-1 over those three years combined outscoring Stetson 118-46.

Since 2005, eight of the 15 games in the series have been decided by four runs or less with the `Noles owning a record of 6-2 during that span.

When these two schools met last year in Tallahassee, Seth Miller posted career-highs in hits and RBI, while hitting his second career grand slam in a 17-8 victory. In game two, Luke Weaver allowed an unearned run in 7.0 innings as FSU won 9-1.

Florida State's 16-game winning streak to open the 2013 season came to an end last Friday in College Park as Maryland handed the Seminoles their first loss of the season, 5-3. The win streak is the second best start to open a season in school history trailing only the 2007 team that began the year winners of their first 23 games.

FSU responded by winning the next two games, both in one-run fashion, to clinch the series. The two wins were significant as the Seminoles extended their series win streak over the Terrapins to 22 straight. Florida State has never lost a series to Maryland since joining the ACC in 1992.

Weaver will make his fourth start of the season on Tuesday and second against Stetson. The sophomore right hander currently leads the ACC in ERA (0.44) and opponent batting average (.114). Last year against the Hatters, Weaver pitched game two in Tallahassee and worked 7.0 innings allowing just four hits and one unearned run while striking out four in leading FSU to a 9-1 victory. Billy Strode gets the start on Wednesday as it will be the sophomore southpaw's second career start.

Both games will air live over the internet on Seminoles.com All-Access. Fans can also listen to both games live on the All-Access player. Locally, fans can listen to the games on 1270 AM. As always, Seminole fans can follow the Noles on twitter @FSU_Baseball and remember to like the Seminoles on Facebook (www.facebook.com/FSUBaseball).
