Release 7: Virginia Notes in PDF Format TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The 2010 Atlantic Coast Conference baseball season gets under way this weekend with a match-up of two top five teams in Tallahassee as No. 3 Florida State (12-0) hosts top-ranked Virginia (10-2). FSU leads the all-time series 43-14 including a mark of 22-3 on their home turf. The Cavaliers won both meetings last year including a victory in the ACC Championship game in Durham. Virginia has won the last three meetings in the series. This marks the sixth time the Seminoles will face the Cavaliers to open league play - the most against any other opponent in the ACC. In a series dating back to 1972, the Seminoles have dropped just one of 16 regular season series (14-1-1) against UVA with their lone loss coming in 2009.
Of the 57 games played between the two schools, 25 have been decided by three runs or less including 13 (FSU 8-5) by only one-run - FSU is 16-9 in those games including a record of 6-2 in Tallahassee. Four of the last five games in the series have been decided by three runs or less with both teams winning a pair.
