Game Notes vs Boston College

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - No. 5 Florida State (12-0) opens its 22nd season in the ACC this weekend as the Seminoles host Boston College (3-8) for a three-game conference series on Mike Martin Field inside Dick Howser Stadium.

It marks the third time the Seminoles and Eagles have squared off to open league play with all three series coming in Tallahassee.

FSU is 4-2 in ACC opening weekend series against Boston College as BC won 2-of-3 in 2009, while the `Noles swept the three-game series in 2011.

The Seminoles own an all-time record of 18-4 against the Eagles and 6-2 inside the friendly confines of Dick Howser Stadium. Florida State had won eight in a row in the series before BC snapped the streak with a 17-6 victory in the series finale in Chestnut Hill last year.

In BC's last trip to Tallahassee in 2011, the Seminoles swept the series winning game three on a walk-off sac-fly off the bat of Rafael Lopez in the bottom of the ninth inning. Dating back to game one of the 2011 series in Chestnut Hill, six of the last 10 games in the series have been determined by three runs or less with FSU winnings five of those six games.

Florida State is 19-2 all-time in series victories when opening ACC play. The Seminoles had never lost an opening series in the ACC, a string of 17 consecutive series victories, until 2009 when the Seminoles dropped two of three from Boston College. A year later FSU suffered its second straight ACC opening weekend loss when the Seminoles dropped two of three from Virginia in Tallahassee.

Since joining the ACC back in 1992, FSU has posted an all-time record of 51-9 on opening weekend in league play. Before the series loss to BC, the last time the Garnet and Gold lost a game in an opening series was on March 15, 2002 at Virginia. Florida State will open league play at home for the 19th time since joining the league.

The Seminoles have posted a league record of 141-63 (.691) and have captured at least a share of six straight Atlantic Division titles since the league adopted divisional play beginning in 2006. In seven seasons of playing in divisions, FSU has posted a record of 74-29 against teams in the Atlantic Division including a mark of 37-13 at home and 37-16 on the road.

The 2012 season marked the sixth year in a row that Florida State finished atop the ACC Atlantic Division claiming at least a share of the division title. Florida State has won the divisional title outright five times (2007-09, 2011-12), while sharing the title with Clemson in 2010. The Seminoles finished the 2012 season with a league record of 24-6 tying the ACC mark for victories. FSU joined the 2006 Clemson Tigers and 2008 Florida State Seminoles for the most wins in league history. FSU was picked to finish second in the division behind NC State at the start of the 2013 season.

The Seminoles will send the same starting rotation out on the hill for the fourth straight week as sophomore left hander Brandon Leibrandt (3-0, 4.96) gets the call on Friday, followed by senior right hander Scott Sitz (2-0, 0.00) on Saturday and junior right hander Peter Miller (2-0, 1.32) on Sunday.

Friday and Sunday's game will air live on ESPN3 with Saturday's game two airing over the internet on Seminoles.com All-Access. Live stats for all three contests will be available via gametracker. Audio will also be available through the All-Access player for all three games, while locally fans can listen to the game on 1270 AM (Friday) and 100.7 FM (Saturday and Sunday).
