TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) - Florida State's James Ramsey was named ACC Player of the Week for the second time in his career and was honored as one of four National Players of the Week by Collegiate Baseball after leading the Seminoles to a 3-1 week which included a weekend series victory over FIU.
Ramsey hit .545 on the week (6-for-11), drew seven walks and reached base on 15 of his 19 plate appearances in four combined games against Jacksonville and Florida International.
The Alpharetta, Ga., native reached base in nine consecutive at-bats during one stretch, including all five appearances in game one against the Panthers. Ramsey hit a pair of home runs, drove in six runs and scored eight times to key FSU to a 3-1 week. He scored a career-high four runs in a mid-week victory over Jacksonville.
On Saturday against FIU, Ramsey provided all the offensive production driving in all three runs in a 3-1 victory. After drawing a walk in his first plate appearance, Ramsey came through with an opposite field single to drive in two runs with two outs in the second. He provided some added insurance in the seventh belting a two-out, solo home run to right.
In the series finale on Sunday, Ramsey broke a scoreless tie in the fourth when he blasted a solo home run to right. He also singled in the first and walked in the sixth.
For the weekend, Ramsey posted a .737 on-base percentage and slugged 1.091. He was also perfect in centerfield converting on all eight fielding opportunities.
The senior captain currently leads the ACC in batting with a .579 average, walks (13), runs scored (15), on-base percentage (.765) and slugging percentage (1.105) and is tied for the league lead in home runs with three.
Ramsey and the Seminoles will head to Clearwater to face the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday, February 29 at 1:05 p.m., in the first spring training game of the season.
