TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State's Marcus Davis was honored for his outstanding performance last week in leading the Seminoles to a 4-0 record as the Cincinnati, Ohio native was honored as a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week and the ACC Co-Player of the Week.
Davis continued his torrid start to the 2013 campaign as the Seminole outfielder/designated hitter hit .615 (8-for-13) in leading FSU to a win over Jacksonville and a three-game sweep over USF. Five of his eight hits went for extra bases with three home runs and two doubles. He drove in at least one run, scored at least one run and picked up at least one hit in all four games.
On Tuesday against Jacksonville, Davis walked in his first AB and then connected on a towering two-run, two-out shot to complete the scoring in FSU's seven-run fourth inning. He opened the USF series in fine fashion going a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate as he reached base on all five on his plate appearances. The junior college transfer was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle in game one against the Bulls as he went single, solo home run, walk, double and single. Davis' hot hitting continued into game one of the doubleheader on Sunday as he laced a two-run single in the first inning. He would go on to steal a base and score on an error in that same inning. He finished game one with a walk and a double. In game two, Davis started in left field and doubled in his first at-bat. He added an insurance run in the eighth connecting on a solo home run for his second home run of the series, third of the week and fourth of the season. At one point during the week, Davis reached base safely in eight consecutive at-bats.
For the season, Davis is hitting a team-best .455 with 10 hits in 22 at-bats. He also leads the Seminoles in hits and home runs (4) and tied for the team lead in runs scored (8), doubles (3) and RBI (9). Through seven games, Davis is slugging an impressive 1.136, while posting an on-base percentage of .571.
Davis shared ACC Player of the Week honors with Maryland's Charlie White. He was also one of six players recognized by Louisville Slugger as a National Player of the Week.
