Game Notes vs. Jacksonville

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Third-ranked Florida State (3-0) looks to continue its winning ways on Tuesday, February 18 when the Seminoles head east on I-10 to take on Jacksonville (1-2) for their first road contest of the season. First pitch between the Seminoles and the Dolphins is set for 4:00 p.m. inside John Sessions Stadium.

The Seminoles enter the game winners of seven in a row over the Dolphins including four straight victories in Jacksonville. Florida State has not dropped a regular season series to Jacksonville since 1991 when the Dolphins won the only meeting that year in Tallahassee, 7-4. Since that loss, Florida State has secured 18 of the last 22 regular series victories against Jacksonville with four ties.

FSU has blanked JU in three of the last four games played inside Sessions Stadium as the Seminoles have outscored the Dolphins 22-5 during that span.

The series has been closely contested as of late with 13 of the last 20 games decided by three runs or less including eight of the last 10. Tuesday's game marks the 159th all-time meeting between these intra-state rivals as Florida State leads the all-time series 121-37 including a mark of 42-25 at Jacksonville.

Florida State is coming off an opening weekend in which it outscored Niagara 30-3. The Seminoles hit .347 as a team collecting 33 hits including 10 doubles and one home run. The lone home run came off the bat of Gage West marking his first collegiate hit.

The Seminole pitching staff was equally impressive posting a 1.04 ERA allowing three earned runs in 26 innings of work. FSU's starting trio of Luke Weaver, Brandon Leibrandt and Mike Compton combined to throw 17 shutout innings allowing just five hits and four walks, while striking out 15.

Peter Miller will look to continue the hot start by the Seminole starters in 2014 as the senior right hander will make his first start of the season on Tuesday and his second career start against the Dolphins.

Last year, Miller scattered three hits over a career-high 7.0 innings to lead the Noles to a 9-0 victory over the Dolphins inside Sessions Stadium. Miller faced the minimum in four of the seven innings he worked finishing the game with just one walk while striking out six. The Lutz, Fla., native is 11-4 with a 3.66 ERA in 32 career appearances including 23 starts.

JU went 1-2 this past weekend at TCU winning the series finale on Sunday, 2-0. The Dolphins will send LHP Parker Perez to the hill on Tuesday to start against the Seminoles. Perez worked 1.2 shutout innings in relief in the season opener against the Horned Frogs.
