TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) - With the season less than three weeks away, the Florida State baseball team continues to receive recognition nationally. Perfect Game USA named two Seminoles to their Pre-Season All-America team, while the NCBWA has the Garnet & Gold ranked in the top 10 to start the year.
James Ramsey and Jayce Boyd earned a spot on the first and third teams, respectively, as announced by Perfect Game USA. Ramsey is rated as the third best outfielder by PG to start the year, while Boyd is ranked as the fourth best player in the nation at first base.
After being drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 2011 MLB First Year Player Draft, Ramsey returns to Tallahassee for his senior season, a year after being named an All-American and leading the Seminole baseball team in batting average, hits, home runs and RBI. He was honored as a third team All-American by the NCBWA last spring.
Ramsey started all 65 games in 2011 and hit .364 with 91 hits, 18 doubles, 10 home runs and 67 RBI. After starting the last two seasons in right field, the Alpharetta, Ga., native will make the move to centerfield in 2012. Ramsey gained valuable experience in centerfield this past summer in the Cape Cod League with the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox. He hit .314 (33-for-105) in 30 games with five doubles, three triples, six home runs and 28 RBI and then capped the summer off as he was named MVP of the East team at the 2011 All-Star game.
Boyd also started all 65 games at first base in leading FSU to the NCAA Super Regionals. He finished the year hitting .343 (84-for-245), good for the second best average on the team, with 17 doubles, a team-high four triples, eight home runs and 60 RBI. Boyd led the team with 10 sacrifices including seven sac-flies. He finished the year ranked in the top 10 in the ACC in six offensive categories including RBI (3rd), triples (t-4th), total bases (5th), hits (t-6th), batting average (8th) and slugging percentage (9th).
