2007 NCAA BASEBALL REGIONAL AT TALLAHASSEE
MISSISSIPPI STATE 3
MISSISSIPPI STATE HEAD COACH
"Hey we won; great pitching by Justin (Pigott) and Aaron (Weatherford) against a real good hitting ball club. Florida State, I think they were hitting .355 coming in, so they (his pitchers) had to pitch very well and they did. We made some plays behind them and gave them a couple of opportunities but you know Justin and Aaron just walked two. I thought Bryan Henry was very effective after he gave up the two-spot in the third inning. There were strikes, change of speeds, got three or four pitches so it all depends on who got the base hit and we got a couple of good knocks and Russ (Sneed) gets the home run and Jeffrey (Rea) gets a key double that set the record."
MISSISSIPPI STATE PLAYERS:
"You know, the first three innings, I felt a little all over the place. Just finally settled down in the fourth and kind of got in a little bit of a rhythm. I'm thankful that some of those balls stayed in the park. That definitely helped. We made some really good plays."
(on getting to play)
FLORIDA STATE HEAD COACH
"I'm trying to remember when I had seen a game better pitched than I saw from (Justin) Pigott and (Aaron) Weatherford. That was just beautiful baseball. They deserved a tremendous amount of credit. That was excellent pitching. We know that we have our backs against the wall, but we're not eliminated. Tomorrow we know we are playing a very good Stetson club, a very good Stetson club. We have to come out and be ready to go. Well I tell you, Bryan (Henry) will tell you this that I don't know when he did it, put he pulled a groin and just show what a fighter he is going out there and pitching his heart out. This young man right here is a special person. He wasn't going to come out of the ballgame."
FLORIDA STATE PLAYERS:
(about his groin injury)
"I mean it was nothing really big or anything that would have affected the way I threw tonight. It just got kind of aggravated in the first inning and it just bothered me all night but it didn't affect anything. You've got to credit them for everything they did tonight. Made about four mistakes and they hit every one of them so that is just the game of baseball."
Tony Thomas, Jr.
(about Pigott's pitching)
"He (Justin Pigott) would just spot every one of his pitches. He threw real well. We were just out front; we weren't getting ahead of the count. That is just one thing the pitcher was on, getting ahead of the count. It's tough to rally behind something like that. We tried to mess them up with timing. He stayed on to the game and did outstanding tonight."
