TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Top-seeded Florida State banged out 15 hits, three each by catcher Jeremiah Klosterman and shortstop Brett Groves, and four Seminole pitchers limited second-seeded Providence to four hits in the Seminoles' 14-3 win over the Friars in the championship game of the NCAA Division I Baseball Regional at Tallahassee on Sunday evening.

The win moves Florida State, 51-12 on the season, into next weekend's super regional against Auburn, a 13-9 winner over Tulane in the Auburn Regional today. Sites for all eight NCAA Super Regionals will be announced on Monday at 3:00 p.m.

"We played a little bit different today than we have been up until this point in the year," said Florida State head coach Mike Martin. "We stole a few bases, laid down some bunts and tried to put some pressure on them instead of waiting for the big inning. We did score 14 runs, but held them to three, so it was pitching and defense that won the ball game."

Florida State jumped to a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Kevin Cash, the regional's Most Outstanding Player, led off with an infield single that was followed by a Klosterman base hit. Cash later scored on a wild pitch and Klosterman came home on a Karl Jernigan sacrafice fly.

Providence answered with two runs of their own in the top of the third on a two RBI double by Keith Reed but FSU went ahead for good in the bottom half of the inning.

With two outs, Klosterman drew a bases loaded walk to score one run, then Chris Hart followed with a single that plated two to make it 5-2.

With the score 7-2 in the top of the seventh, the Friars loaded the bases with one out, but Seminole releiver Chris Whidden entered the game and struck out back-to-back Providence batters to get out of the jam.

Florida State put the contest away with five runs in the bottom of the seventh and two more in the eight. It was the second time in three regional games that FSU put up at least 10 runs and the sixth time in its last seven regional games it scored in double figures.

Chris Ginn improved to 5-0 by working an inning and two-thirds of scoreless relief for the Seminoles. Providence starter Mike Stuart was tagged with the loss to fall to 2-3. He allowed seven runs, all earned, on eight hits and walked five in six innings of work.

The game was the final one in the 76-year history of Providence College baseball. The program is being disbanded to comply with Title IX. The Friars finished the year with a 49-16 mark.

Cash earned regional MOP honors after going 7-for-13 (.539) with a home run, four RBI and seven runs scored. He was one of six Seminoles on the regional's all-tournament team. The team is listed below:
