CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA -- Centerfielder Brian Cox drove in four runs on four hits, including a two-run home run, as No. 9 Florida State (44-16, 17-4 ACC) swept Virginia (27-23-1, 5-17 ACC) by scores of 5-4 and 11-2 in a doubleheader.

Right-hander Jon McDonald (9-3) struck out eight batters in 7 1/3 innings of work to earn his ninth win of the season in the first game of the day. McDonald held the Cavaliers to four runs on six hits and walked two batters.

Reliever Mike DiBlasi entered the game with runners on second and third base and one out in the eighth inning and retired the final two batters to escape the inning. DiBlasi struck out three batters in 1 2/3 innings to collect his fourth save of the season.

Virginia shortstop Tim LaVigne belted a three-run home run to give the Cavaliers a 3-0 lead in the second inning.

Centerfielder Brian Cox walked and scored on a basehit by rightfielder Matt Diaz in the fourth inning to cut Virginias lead to 3-1. Cox tied it up at 3-3 in the fifth with a two-run home run to leftfield.

Seminole shorstop Brett Groves scored the game-winning run on a passed ball in the eighth inning after reaching base on an error. Leftfielder Karl Jernigan singled and scored on a fielding error to five FSU a 5-4 lead.

Virginia Javier Lopez (5-5) surrendered five runs on six hits in 7 2/3 innings as he took the loss. Lopez struck out five and walked four in the outing.

The Seminoles belted 14 hits as they defeated Virginia 11-2 in the second game of the doubleheader.

Left-hander Wes Crawford (7-3) struck out six batters in eight innings as he held the Cavaliers to two runs on six hits in his seventh win of the season.

Virginia starter Casey Kennedy (5-6) gave up four runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings of work in the loss.

Cox singled and scored on a bunt basehit by first baseman Kevin Cash to give FSU a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning of the second game. Florida State put three runs on the board in the fifth inning on an RBI-basehit by Cox and a two-run triple by designated hitter Terry Henderson.

Cavalier catcher Josh Bowling contributed RBI-doubles in the fifth and seventh innings for Virginias run production.

Second baseman Brooks Badeaux doubled and scored on a basehit by Cox in the seventh inning to increase FSUs lead to 5-2.

The Seminoles put the game out of reach by scoring three more runs in the eighth inning. Rightfielder Matt Diaz and Cash belted back-to-back doubles in the inning and Jernigan hit a two-run single to help add to Florida States lead.

FSU scored three runs in the final inning on an RBI-basehit by Matt Woodward and a two-run double by Jernigan.
