May 1, 1998 CORAL GABLES, FL -- Right-hander Alex Santos hurled a complete-game one-hitter as No. 1 Miami (42-5) defeated No. 11 Florida State (40-15), 7-1, in front of 3,356 fans at Mark Light Stadium. Santos (11-1) struck out 12 and walked two batters in the outing. Florida State centerfielder Brian Cox blasted a solo home run with two outs in the ninth inning as the Seminoles escaped a no-hitter by Santos. Second baseman Manny Crespo ripped a basehit to right field to knock in designated hitter Jason Michaels as the Hurricanes jumped out to a 1-0 lead. Miami catcher Russ Jacobson belted a two-run home run over the right field wall to give the Hurricanes a 3-0 advantage. The Hurricanes added three runs in the seventh inning sparked by a two-run double by third baseman Aubrey Huff. Left-hander Wes Crawford (6-3) surrendered six runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings pitched. Crawford struck out seven and walked five in the outing.
