TALLAHASSEE, FL--Freshman shortstop Brett Groves contributed the game-winning RBI in the seventh inning and a solo homer in the eighth as No. 13 Florida State (36-12, 13-2 ACC) rallied to defeat No. 22 Georgia Tech (28-14, 9-7 ACC), 8-3, in front of 3,326 fans at Dick Howser Stadium. The Seminoles scored seven runs in the seventh inning with the help of two Yellow Jacket errors and four walks by Georgia Tech pitchers. Groves and rightfielder Matt Diaz each recorded RBI-singles in the inning. Groves' eighth inning home run gave FSU an 8-1 edge. Right-hander Jon McDonald (7-3) struck out eight batters as he scattered four hits and gave up one run in eight innings pitched. Left-hander Zach Diaz gave up two runs on three hits in one inning of relief. Georgia Tech starter Chuck Crowder (7-3) took the loss as he gave up four runs on five hits in 6 1/3 innings pitched. Crowder did not allow an earned run and struck out seven in the outing. Rightfielder Scott Prather belted a solo home run in the fourth inning as Georgia Tech took a 1-0 lead. FSU was held scorelss until the seventh inning. Yellow Jacket catcher Eric McQueen ripped a two-run blast in the top of the ninth to account for Georgia Tech's final two runs.
