TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Left-hander Wes Crawford struck out a career-high 11 batters as he led No. 7 Florida State (29-8) to a 13-3 win over Mercer (19-13-1) at Dick Howser Stadium.
Crawford did not allow an earned run in the seven-inning outing. He gave up two runs on four hits and two walks.
Catcher Jeremy Salazar belted a two-run double in the first inning to give the Seminoles a 2-0 lead. Mercer tied the score in the second inning on two Florida State errors and an RBI-single by centerfielder Brent Magouirk.
FSU took the lead on two errors and three walks by the Bears in the third inning. Mercer pitcher David D'Amico (6-4) walked in two runs and centerfielder Brian Cox scored on a sacrifice fly by second baseman Brooks Badeaux. D'Amico gave up five runs on three hits and six walks in three innings of work as he recorded the loss.
The Seminoles scored three more runs in the fourth inning on an RBI-triple by DH Terry Henderson and a pair of RBI-doubles by first baseman Kevin Cash and shortstop Brett Groves.
FSU capped off the scoring with five runs in the eighth inning. Badeaux ripped a three-run triple to leftfield and Cox contributed his seventh home run of the season, a solo blast to leftfield.
