TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- No. 8 Florida State (25-7) belted 16 hits, including three home runs, as the Seminoles defeated Florida Atlantic (23-11), 15-3, in their 14th consecutive victory. Rightfielder Matt Diaz belted a three-run home run in the third inning and increased his team-leading home run total to eight. Catcher Jeremy Salazar and centerfielder Brian Cox hit back-to-back solo home runs to lead off the fifth inning and put the Seminoles ahead, 7-1. Cox finished the day with three hits and three RBI. Right-hander Chris Chavez (4-2) held the Owls to one run while scattering nine hits and striking out seven batters in the six-inning outing to earn the win for the Seminoles. Florida Atlantic left-hander Todd Moser (5-4) took the loss as he surrendered seven runs on eight hits in the five-inning outing. Second baseman Brooks Badeaux ripped three hits and shortstop Brett Groves extended his hitting streak to 16 games with a basehit in the second inning. FSU reliever Chris Ginn struck out five batters in the final three innings to earn his first save of the season. Florida Atlantic third baseman Ed Bou belted a two-run home run in the ninth inning.
