TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) - Eighth-ranked Florida State (9-1) posted its second shutout of the series blanking Maine (3-5) 10-0 in game two of the doubleheader on Sunday to complete the series sweep and remain perfect in nine all-time meetings against the Black Bears.

After pounding out 17 hits in game one, the Seminoles countered with 15 hits in game two as five Florida State hitters finished with multiple hits. Jayce Boyd and John Nogowski finished with a game-high three hits, while Justin Gonzalez, James Ramsey and Devon Travis each had two hits apiece.

"I just can't say enough about how we approached the game," said head coach Mike Martin. "We played very well on Friday and got excellent pitching. Then we come out today and get 18 in a seven-inning ball game. And then in the first inning of the third game we get five. That's the mark of a team that has got their heads in the game."

Ramsey led all players with three RBI and three runs scored in the second game of the doubleheader. The Alpharetta, Ga., native connected on a two-run home run in the second, good for his fourth round tripper of the season. Nogowski, Gonzalez and Stephen McGee all finished with two RBI.

Peter Miller worked 5.0 scoreless innings for the second straight outing as the sophomore right hander moved to 2-0 on the year. After allowing one hit in his last outing against FIU, Miller gave up just two hits to Maine on Sunday and lowered his team leading ERA among starters to 0.77.

The Lutz, Fla., native settled down after issuing three walks in the first inning and finished with a career-high five strikeouts.

"This just tells myself that I can go out and do this every start," said Miller after his pitching performance on Sunday. "This is a big time confidence builder. I really feel in the zone. I have to get rid of the walks, but I feel really confident out there."

Brian Busch, Gage Smith, Brandon Johnson and Robert Benincasa each threw a scoreless inning in relief to preserve the shutout. Smith and Benincasa faced the minimum, while Busch allowed a hit and struck out two and Johnson gave up a hit and recorded a strikeout.

"We got a good pitching performance from Peter Miller and the bullpen," added Martin.

The Seminole jumped out to an early 7-0 lead plating five runs in the first and two more in the second. Sherman Johnson opened the scoring in the first by singling to center, moved to second on a groundout by Travis and scored on a single up the middle by Ramsey. Ramsey would later score on a double to left by Gonzalez. Black Bears starter Shaun Coughlin (0-1) was the victim of two Maine errors in the inning as three of the five runs scored by the Seminoles were unearned. Boyd singled and scored in the inning, while Nogowski reached on a fielder's choice and later scored. McGee capped off the scoring in the inning plating Gonzalez on a two-out single to center.

Ramsey made the score 7-0 in the second as he blasted a two-run home run for his fourth of the season and 25th of his career. With Travis on at first after a one out single to center, Ramsey took a 3-1 pitch from Coughlin over the fence in right center.

FSU pushed its lead to 10-0 with three more runs in the sixth. Travis reached for the third time in as many at-bats with a single to left center. Ramsey followed with a walk and Boyd loaded the bases with his third hit of the game on a single to right. Back-to-back RBI singles by Nogowski and Gonzalez gave the Seminoles a nine-run lead. McGee drove in the 10th run of the game as he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Boyd.

Florida State will hit the road for its first road trip of the season as the Seminoles will play two games at UCF beginning Tuesday, March 6. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
