The Seminoles tied up the score in the bottom of the first inning as second baseman Brooks Badeaux reached base on an error and third baseman Jose Zabala belted a double. Badeaux scored on a ground ball out and leftfielder Brian Cox knocked in Zabala with a basehit to center field to tie the score at 2-2.

Florida State took a 4-2 lead in the third inning as first baseman Kevin Cash led off with a basehit and catcher Jeremy Salazar walked. Cox advanced the runners to second and third.
