Cox' Grand Slam Leads FSU to a 6-4 Win Over Ohio State
Eighth inning slam rallies no. 23 FSU to victory.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL -- Rightfielder Brian Cox belted a grand slam home run to leftfield in the eighth inning to rally No. 23 Florida State to a 6-4 victory over No. 17 Ohio State in the ACC Baseball Blast at Disney¹s Wide World of Sports.
Cox¹ grand slam was followed by a solo home run by centerfielder Shawn McCorkel as FSU scored five runs in the inning to give the Seminoles a 6-3 advantage. McCorkel and Cox each had two hits on the day.
Reliever Zach Diaz (1-0) earned the win for the Seminoles as he held the Buckeyes to one run on three hits in four innings pitched before leaving the game in the ninth inning. Lefthander Mike DiBlasi struck out two batters to finish the game and earn a save for FSU.
Both squads remained hitless until the fourth inning when Buckeye catcher Mike Kremblas led off with a single. Kremblas scored on the next play on a throwing error by Jose Zabala. Designated hitter Marcello Garofalo reached base on a fielder¹s choice and advanced to second on a throwing error by reliever Zach Diaz. Garofelo was driven home by a single to centerfield by rightfielder Dan Zabloudil to give Ohio State a 2-0 advantage.
Ohio State increased their lead to 3-0 in the fifth as centerfielder Mike Lockwood scored on a Mark Carek single. Lockwood also hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth.
The Seminoles cut the lead to 3-1 in the seventh inning as centerfielder Shawn McCorkel singled and scored on George Otero¹s double to leftcenterfield.
Ohio State righthander Eric Thompson struck out a career-high 12 batters as he held the Seminoles to one run and four hits in 6 1/3 innings pitched. Mike Stafford (0-1) took the loss in relief as he surrendered three runs on three hits.
FSU starter Wes Crawford allowed two earned runs on five hits and struck out four batters in four innings pitched.
