Earned First Team Baseball America All-American honors
as a sophomore...a consensus preseason All-American as
a junior…entering his third season as FSU’s starter behind the
plate…listed as the ACC’s best defensive catcher and the
catcher with the league’s best arm according to Baseball
America…the publication’s No. 17 junior prospect nationally
…led the conference last season with six pick-offs…voted to
the All-ACC first team and to the ACC All-Tournament team
last year…ranked second on the team with 75 RBI and third
with 13 home runs…named Louisville Slugger National Player
of the Week after going nine-for-14 with four homers, two
doubles and eight RBI in FSU’s sweep of Clemson…went 8-
for-12 with a .917 slugging percentage in the NCAA Tallahassee
Regional to earn MVP honors.
2002 AS A SOPHOMORE: First team Baseball America
All-American...named a third team All-American by Collegiate
Baseball...voted First Team All-ACC and to the ACC All-Tournament...
named Louisville Slugger National Player of the
Week after going 9-for-14 with four homers, two doubles and
eight RBI in FSU’s sweep of Clemson (5/20)...2002 Team USA
Baseball invitee...third on the team with 13 home runs...led the
ACC with six pick-offs...went 2-for-4 with a double, triple an
RBI at Hawaii-Hilo (2/27)...seventh in the ACC with seven home
runs in conference play...hit his first home run of the season
against then-No. 1 Stanford (Feb. 9) while going 2-for-4 with
two runs scored and three RBI...went 4-for-5 with four runs
scored and two home runs and a double at Clemson (May
19)...led the team in the NCAA Regional Championship game,
going 4-for-5 with two runs, three RBI and a home run...named
to the NCAA Tallahassee Regional All-Tournament Team and
was named MVP after hitting .667 (8-12) with a slugging per-centage
of .917...finished ninth overall and tops among ACC
catchers with 75 RBI...held a slugging percentage of .639 vs.
conference opponents...hit .387 with seven homers and recorded
a team-best 27 RBI vs. Top 10 opponents....ended the
2002 season on a six-game hitting streak.
2001 AS A FRESHMAN: Started 57 of FSU’s 66 games
behind the plate… named a Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American…
ranked sixth on the team with a .291 batting
average…went on a tear late in the season, hitting .490 over
the last 12 games to raise his average from .229 to .291…hit a
solo home run to give FSU a 1-0 victory over Liberty (3/
14)…went 3-for-5 in his first game against Miami (4/13) with
one homer, one double and a season-high three RBI…collected
a season-best four hits at Duke on 5/13…finished the year on
a 12-game hitting streak…joined John-Ford Griffin on the ACC
All-Tournament team…went 3-for-4 vs. Wake Forest (5/19) with
one home run, two doubles, two RBI and three runs scored
…also named to the NCAA Regional All-Tournament team after
going 5-for-10 with three RBI and two runs scored in three
games.
PREP: The only high school player in the country to be
named a two-time Baseball America All-American…one of the
top catching prospects nationally coming out of Bishop
Kenny…has played with Team USA over the last three years
(twice with the 16 and under squad and once with 18 and
under)…batted cleanup with Team USA over the summer
…named the International Player of the Year while playing with
Team USA following sophomore year…named first team all-state
as a junior and senior…the
Dairy Farmers Player of the Year
in Florida as a senior…a Team
One National Showcase participant…
also played football as
a freshman and sophomore…a
honor roll student throughout
high school.
