Junior who will open the season as FSU’s No. 2 starter behind
All-American Matt Lynch…had an outstanding sopho-more
season as he went 11-2…ERA of 3.38 ranked fifth in the
ACC…throws in the low 90’s and has a very good curveball
…has the second-best breaking ball in the ACC according to
Baseball America…defeated Clemson in the ACC Championship
game on 5/25 as he worked eight innings and allowed
just one run…had a 3-0 record against conference opponents,
which included wins at No. 1 Clemson (5/19) and against No.
5 Georgia Tech (4/21)…drafted in the 18th round by the St.
Louis Cardinals out of high school.
2002 AS A SOPHOMORE: Moved into the
weekend rotation as the third starter for the
series at Miami (April 14)...defeated then-No. 1
Clemson (May 19), allowing three runs on six
hits in six innings of work to help
the Seminoles pick up their first-ever
sweep at Clemson...had
a perfect 3-0 record
against ACC opponents
...ranked fifth among
ACC pitchers with an
ERA of 3.38...finished second on the team with 11 victories...only gave up one home
run in his first nine appearances of the season...had a season-high
seven strikeouts three separate times (Siena, The Cita-del,
Duke)...didn’t pick up his first loss until March 31 at Wake
Forest...earned his seventh win of the season against then-No.
5 Georgia Tech (April 21) after allowing one run on seven
hits in six innings of work...picked up his 10th win of the sea-son
in the ACC Championship Game (May 25) against Clemson
while pitching a season-long eight innings and only giving up
one run.
2001 AS A FRESHMAN: Tied for fourth on the team with
nine starts…took over as a weekend starter during the middle
of the season…picked up conference victories against Virginia,
NC State and North Carolina…best game of the year came in
ACC play when he defeated Virginia on 3/11, giving up just
one earned run in 8.1 innings of work with seven strikeouts
and one walk…struck out a season-high eight and picked up
a win in five innings vs. St. Joseph’s (3/6)…improved to 5-0 on
3/24 with a victory over UNC…ranked fifth on the team with
47 strikeouts.
PREP: Went 8-2 with a .0996 ERA while recording 135
strikeouts and walking 45 in 91.1 innings as senior…led East
Lake to the first 6A Regional playoff in school history…a second
team 6A all-state pitcher…the top rated standout pitcher
according to Dave Rawnsley of Baseball America…a three-time
St. Petersburg Times Class of the County honoree…
named to the Dunedin Classic All-Tournament team…won team
MVP and pitcher of the year award at East Lake...a member of
FCA and an honor roll student.
PERSONAL: Drafted in the 18th round by the St. Louis
Cardinals…major is communication studies…born on March 27,
1982.
