JUNIOR YEAR (2005): A member of the Seminoles' starting rotation through out the season who is fourth on the team with 12 starting assignments...made seven weekend starts including two on Friday night and five on Sunday afternoon...has won a single-season career-high four games...earned one of the Seminoles' two complete game victories of the season and tied a career high for inning in the same game - a seven inning decision over Hawaii-Hilo...Florida State is 10-8 during his 18 appearances with ACC victories coming against Virginia, Maryland and North Carolina...among the team leaders with a 2.8:1 strikeout to walk ratio...one of only six pitchers on the staff with more than 50 strikeouts...seven appearances against six different ACC teams and Florida State has a 3-4 record in those games...a season-high seven strikeouts three times - in victories over Auburn, Hawaii-Hilo and Stetson.
SOPHOMORE YEAR (2004): One of the Tribe's top starters be-fore
injury ended his season...the leftie registered a 4.10 ERA in 13
starts and posted a 3-2 record...his win-loss percentage was tied for
fourth on the squad...team went 9-4 in his 13 starts, the best winning
percentage amongst all starters...also fourth on the team for innings
pitched and strikeouts despite his season coming to an early end...his
13 starts were third-most behind Eddie Cannon and Mark Sauls...only
Cannon set down more hitters watching strike three than did Jones
with 22...only two pitchers had more success versus left handed bat-ters
than Jones who held them to a .250 average...one of the Tribe's
best at keeping the leadoff runner off base and finishing an inning
after recording two outs. Jones and Rhett James were FSU's only pitchers
in the top five in both of those categories...only two pitchers aver-aged
longer outings per appearance than Jones who went 4.24 in-nings
per appearance...had the second-best strikeout to walk ratio on
the staff at 3.4 to 1...had the second-best average of walks per game
at 2.26 and led all Tribe pitchers with more than five starts in K's per
game with 7.77...the only FSU hurler with double digit starts in 2004
that did not allow a triple...made just one error in 17 chances.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS: Made his first-career weekend start in the
season opener against VMI (1/31)...worked 6.0 innings with a career-high
eight strikeouts and did not allow an earned run on two
hits...pitched 5.0 shutout innings at Arizona State (2/6) only allowing
four hits with three strikeouts...earned his first win of the season at
Jacksonville (2/15)...received a no decision after pitching 5.0 innings
against Oral Roberts (2/20) and only allowed one run on five hits with
one walk and seven strikeouts...worked a career-long 7.0 innings
against UNC Asheville (2/27)...allowed two runs on six hits in 5.1
innings with four strikeouts against Nebraska (3/5)...pitched seven
innings and allowed just two runs on six hits with five strikeouts and
didn't walk a batter against Maryland (3/19)...worked 3.1 innings and
gave up two runs on four hits with three walks and three strikeouts
against NC State (4/3)...pitched 0.1 innings of relief at Miami (4/17)
and allowed one unearned run on one hit with one walk...earned his
third win of the season while tying a career-long with 7.0 innings of
work...moved back into the starting rotation for the Clemson series...left
the Clemson game (5/1) with a sore left elbow...missed the remainder of the season due to an elbow injury.
2003 (Freshman Year): Threw one scoreless inning of relief with
no hits and one strikeout vs. VMI (2/1)... earned the victory in his first
career start vs. Siena (3/4)...went 5.0 innings and allowed two runs
on five hits, striking out three and walking two against the
Saints...worked two scoreless innings of relief vs. St. Joseph's (3/
12)...worked one scoreless inning vs. UNC (3/28) with a strikeout...
worked 1.1 innings of scoreless relief in the tie at Miami (4/20)...had
another scoreless inning vs. Miami (4/27)...struck out two and pitched
one scoreless inning at Georgia Tech (5/3)...worked 3.0 innings of
relief vs. Georgia Tech in the ACC Tournament and gave up one run
on three hits...allowed only four earned runs in his final 16 outings of
the season (19.0 innings)...did not pitch in the NCAA Regional...pitched
a combined two innings against Texas in the Super Regional, allowing
one run on no hits with one strikeout and two walks.
PREP: Named All-Conference as an outfielder following his se-nior
season...never had an ERA above 1.70 in his last three years of
high school...hit .405 during his senior year with an ERA of 1.68...was
honored as the team's MVP after his junior and senior seasons...won
the team pitching award following his sophomore and junior
years...voted All-Conference at first base as a freshman.
