The newest addition to the Seminole coaching staff is Link Jarrett. Fans will remember Jarrett as one of the greatest shortstops in Florida State history. He enters his first year as an FSU assistant coach after returning to Tallahassee from his assistant coaching position at Flagler College in St. Augustine, Fla. Jarrett will serve as the first base coach and will also be responsible for working with the Seminole infielders. Jarrett was the starting shortstop for the Seminoles from 1991-94 before being drafted and signed by the Colorado Rockies in 1994. He finished his Florida State career with a .279 batting average and holds the FSU career records for consecutive games played (235), at bats (989)and assists (802). Jarrett was a two-time NCBWA All-American as well as an All-ACC selection in 1993 and 1994. While he was at Florida State, Jarrett helped lead the Seminoles to three College World Series appear-ances (1991, ’92 and ’94). Jarrett spent five years with the Colorado Rockies organization after leaving FSU. He earned the Most Spectacular Defensive Player Award, while playing in Bend, Oregon in 1994 and set the New Haven franchise record with a .303 batting average in 1997. Before returning to Florida State, Jarrett served as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for Flagler College from 1999-2002. While at Flagler, his teams set seven new school records in just three seasons (team batting average, total hits, doubles, fielding percentage, team ERA, strikeouts and national ranking). In 2001, Flagler earned a No. 5 national ranking, the highest in school history. From 1996-2002 Jarrett also worked with Sunshine Network and Fox Sports Net as a color commentator covering college baseball. In 1998, Jarrett performed the movements that were digitized in Nintendo’s All-Star Baseball 2000 video game that was released in April of 1999. Jarrett is married to the former Jennifer Skelton, a Seminole cheerleader who also served as FSU’s cheer coach. They have two children, four-year-old Justin (J.T.) and daughter Dawson, who was born on April 26, 2002. |
