2008: Missed the first half of the season rehabbing from off-season Tommy John surgery to his left elbow...made his collegiate debut on April 16 against North Florida...pitched a scoreless inning, issuing one walk while inducing three groundball outs...finished the season 0-1 with a 2.70 ERA in 14 appearances...registered 13.1 innings of work giving up just four earned runs while posting 14 strikeouts...collected career-highs in innings pitched (2.0) and strikeouts (4) in FSU's loss to Jacksonville...struck out the side in the sixth, while not allowing a run on two hits...two appearances in the ACC Tournament for a total of 1.1 innings of work...pitched a scoreless inning against Wake Forest...allowed a run on two hits against North Carolina...threw 5.1 innings in four relief appearances in the NCAA Tournament...posted a 3.38 ERA with seven strikeouts...longest outing of the season came in game one of the Super Regional against Wichita State...tallied 2.1 innings of work allowing one run on two hits while striking out three...pitched a combined 2.0 innings in two games at the College World Series...shut down left handed hitters on the year allowing just five hits in 24 at-bats good for a .208 average.
HIGH SCHOOL: A stand-out at Lake Brantley High School, earned Seminole County's Player of the Year award in 2007...struck out 85 batters in just 57.2 innings while posting a 1.18 ERA before dropping his first game of the season in April...with a fastball that touches 90 on the radar gun and the ability to command three pitches, Gast took his talents to the U.S. Junior National Team during the summer of 2007...the southpaw was drafted 170th overall in the 5th round by the Texas Rangers in the 2007 MLB Draft.
