Senior Jakub Zivec returns after earning All-American honors in 2012 for the Seminoles.

Aug. 5, 2013

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Returning All-Americans Jakub Zivec and Colleen Quigley will lead rebuilding Florida State men's and women's cross country teams in 2013, which will feature a nine-meet schedule, culminating with the Atlantic Coast Conference, NCAA South Regional and NCAA Championship meets.

The Seminoles' schedule includes four trips to North Carolina and three to Indiana, in addition to the annual FSU Invitational, set for Oct. 11-12 at Apalachee Regional Park.

"I really like our cross country schedule," Florida State men's coach Bob Braman said. "It allows us to get to cooler climates early in the season and also gets us on the championship courses before we have to compete at our peak on them.

"The Notre Dame and Pre-National meets have historically also been great points-earning meets so that we have a great at-large resume come NCAA selection time. Alabama and Terre Haute's courses are very similar to our home course at the ARP, so we get some great preparation in several times a week. Everything we do with our schedule allows us to be as prepared as possible for the Region and National meets."

The Seminoles open the season at the Covered Bridge Open on Aug. 30 in Boone N.C. and return to the Tar Heel state on Sept. 20 to compete in the Wake Forest Invitational/Pre-ACC meet in Kernersville. This meet will give the team its first preview of the ACC Championship course in a competitive environment which will feature a number of conference teams.

"We are keeping to our traditional layout of meets this fall," FSU women's coach Karen Harvey said. "We are excited to check out the new ACC course in Kernersville. We are hoping to really be going and clicking as a team by Pre-Nationals." Following the Wake Forest Invitational, the Seminoles will head to Charlotte, N.C. for the Sept. 28 Charlotte Invitational.

Three meets highlight the October portion of the schedule, which begins with what has become an annual pilgrimage to South Bend, Ind. for the Notre Dame Invitational on Oct. 5. The Seminoles return home the following week to host the FSU Invitational at Apalachee Regional Park Oct. 11-12. The two-day meet is one of the largest in the Southeast and will include college and university races on Friday, followed by a full morning of high school races Saturday on the course that will play host to the Florida High School State Championships in November.

The Seminoles will close out October in Terre Haute, Ind. at the Indiana State University/Pre-Nationals Invitational on Oct. 19. The meet will be contested at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course, one of the most challenging venues of the season, and the home to the 2013 NCAA Championships. Many of the nation's top programs will be on hand.

Florida State's championship season begins with a return trip to Kernersville, N.C. for the ACC Championships at Beeson Park on Nov. 1. The Seminole women will look to extend their string of conference titles to six years, while the men will eye their first team title since 2010.

A pair of impressive streaks will be on the line when the Seminoles head to the Harry Pritchett Running Park in Tuscaloosa, Ala. for the Nov. 16 NCAA South Regional Championship. With the top two men's and women's teams claiming automatic berths to the NCAA Championship meet the FSU men will try and extend the nation's seventh longest active streak with an 11th consecutive trip, while the women will vie for an eighth consecutive appearance.

The NCAA Championships are set for Nov. 23 in Terre Haute, Ind.

Cross country runners are scheduled to report to campus on Aug. 14 with the first day of practice set for Aug. 15.
