SPOILER ALERT!! Results From 200m Dash Semifinals At Beijing Olympics

Aug. 19, 2008

Beijing, China - The semifinals of the 200m dash at the Beijing Olympics Tuesday morning had a Garnet and Gold flare to them as former Seminoles Brian Dzingai of Zimbabwe and Walter Dix again ran in the same heat, finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively. Dzingai qualified for the finals with a season-best 20.17 while Dix's qualifying mark of 20.19 gives him a chance for another Olympic medal.

In the quarterfinals, Dix and Dzingai also ran in the same heat and both comfortably qualified for the semifinals finishing first and second in their heat with top three times among all 32 runners across the four heats.

Dzingai, who was an All-ACC performer while competing for the Seminoles in 2003 and 2004, placed first in the quarterfinal heat and turned in the top overall time at 20.23 while Dix finished second in his heat at 20.27, good enough for the third best time overall.

In the first round of the 200m dash on Sunday, Dzingai recorded the top overall time at 20.25 with a first place finish in his heat while Dix placed second in his heat at 20.77.

The finals of the 200m dash will take place August 20th at 10:30 a.m. Eastern.
