Track and Field highlights the group of six honored Seminoles.

The Florida State track and field team highlights a group of six Seminole student-athletes who have been named 2007 Arthur Ashe Junior Sports Scholars.  Javier Garcia-Tunon (1^st team) and Hubert Mitchell (3^rd team) from the men's track and field team and Naikeya Heath (2^nd team) and Kandia Batchelor (3^rd team) from the women's team received the honor while football's Myron Rolle (1^st team) and women's basketball's Alicia Gladden (4^th team) round out the FSU honorees.

Diverse: Issues In Higher Education established the Sports Scholars Awards to honor undergraduate students of color who have made achieving both academically and athletically a winning combination.

Inspired by tennis legend Arthur Ashe Jr.'s commitment to education as well as his love for the game of tennis, we invite every college and university in the country to participate in this annual awards program by nominating their outstanding sports scholars. In addition to their athletic ability, Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars must exhibit academic excellence and community activism.

To be included, students have to compete in an intercollegiate sport; maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2; and must be active on their campuses or in their communities. This year, approximately 600 male and female student-athletes from across the country were nominated.

Track & Field's Javier Garcia Tunon (Fall '06 GPA 4.0, Cum. GPA 4.0, Business Manag't)

Football's Myron Rolle (Fall '06 GPA 3.71, Cum. GPA 3.89, Biology/Pre-Med)

2nd Team:

Track & Field's Naikeya Heath (Fall '06 3.83, Cum. GPA 3.61, Exercise Science)

3rd Team:

Track & Field's Hubert Mitchell (Fall '06 3.44, Cum. GPA 3.30, Comm. Studies)

Track & Field's Kandia Batchelor (Fall '06 3.15, Cum GPA 3.48, Bus. Man't & Bus. Mkg)

4th Team:

Women's Basketball's Alicia Gladden (Fall '06 3.56, Cum. GPA 3.37, Sport Management)
