BOSTON, Mass. - Florida State heptathletes Daniel Salgado and Chris Snow may be ready for a status change on their Facebook pages.

Salgado and Snow came into Thursday's ACC Indoor Track & Field Championship meet looking to post their first heptathlon scores of the season. They closed the day - with four of seven events in the book - in sixth and 11th place, respectively, and are on the doorstep of providing the Seminoles some bonus points in pursuit of a team title.

Salgado, a sophomore from Southwest Ranches (Fla.) Archbishop McCarthy, is in the thick of the competition with 2,610 points through four events. A hurdler by trade, he is just 40 points out of fifth place and 45 out of fourth; not bad for a guy who is competing in his first heptathlon since finishing ninth at the 2011 ACC Indoor Championships.

Snow, a redshirt freshman from Wilmington (N.C.) Ashley, is making his ACC heptathlon debut at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center. He has 2,373 points, but is just 81 points out of the eighth and final scoring position.

Points in all events are precious for the Seminole men, who are expected to battle defending champion Virginia Tech, for the team title.

"If you told me on the plane to get here that we could have what we have now - sixth and 11th - with this competitive of an effort, I would probably take it," FSU coach Bob Braman said. "Let's not have [Friday's] competition. Give me my three points and let's go."

Friday, however, has the potential to bring even better results for the Seminoles in the heptathlon, which concludes with the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and 1,000-meter run.

"In Danny's case, his No. 1 event is the high hurdles," Braman added. "We've got a shot. ... We have a chance to move up. If we can get fourth or fifth out of this thing [from Salgado] and Chris gets a point, that would be big.

"There aren't a lot of points we can attain strictly on effort. ... From zero to five points would be monstrous and there's a Virginia Tech guy in fourth that can affect a two-point swing."

Salgado established new personal bests in all four heptathlon events Thursday. He opened with a 7.24 in the 60-meter dash and followed with a 6.34m (20-9.75) long jump effort. He also registered bests in the shot put (10.34m/33-11.25) and high jump (1.82/5-11.25). His first-day total of 2,610 points dwarfs his first-day total from last season's meet (2,343).

Snow, who did not complete the heptathlon earlier this season at the Razorback Invitational, has been steady throughout.

The rest of the Seminoles will get into the action Friday when the field events kick off the day beginning at 12 p.m. Finals will be contested in the men's and women's high jump, long jump and weight throw, as well as the women's pole vault. On the track, the men's and women's 5,000-meter finals and distance medley relays will close out a day otherwise set aside for qualifying.

"Are jumpers are getting healthy and that's exciting. Phillip (Young) and Paul (Madzivire) getting healthy is a big deal," Braman said. "We've got a few banged up people, too, but we're getting healthier by the day, which might be the difference between winning and losing this meet."
