Philadelphia, Pa. - The No. 1/1 men's and No. 14/14 women's track and field teams completed day one (April 27) for FSU at the 2006 Penn Relays at Franklin Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pa.
The women's 4x400m relay ran 3:38.27 to take third place in their heat. Twin sisters Alycia and Alyce Williams (Palm Coast, Fla./George Mason University) completed the first exchange and sophomore Kandia Batchelor (Tampa, Fla./Hillsborough) handed off to anchor senior Evelyne-Cynthia Niako (Stone Mountain, Ga./Stephenson).
Senior Barbara Parker (Norfolk, England/Loughborough) and freshman Lydia Willemse (Forest, Ontario/St. Christopher) placed fourth and fifth in steeple, crossing the finish line in 10:27.36 and 10:27.85. Senior Sean Burris (Rockledge, Fla./USF) cleared the 3000m steeplechase course in 9:14.25.
Junior Abbie Wilshire (Bristol, England/Birmingham University) finished sixth in a competive 3000m run group, posting a mark of 9:48.98. Sophomore Kirsten Hagen (Blacksburg, Va./Christiansburg) was 16th, running 10:12.18.
The Seminoles continue competition at the 2006 Penn Relays through Saturday. Two small groups will also compete this weekend - on Saturday at the (UCF) Golden Twilight Invitational and on Sunday at the (Stanford) Cardinal Invitational.
