TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - As the last event of the 2012 calendar year approaches, the Florida State swimming and diving team will head to Atlanta, Ga. for the Georgia Tech Invitational this weekend. The 24th- ranked women and the No. 25 men's team will look to add more success to their seasons as prelims begin on Friday at 10 a.m.

"This meet is the culmination of our first semester of work," head coach Neil Harper said. "We've trained hard and competed even harder this season. We've been on the road a lot and I think it's important for us to focus during all sessions of this three day meet."

The Seminoles are one of seven teams in the competition, however they are one of four with both men's and women's swimming and diving squads. Asides from the FSU and Georgia Tech, Alabama and Emory are among the full teams in attendance. Florida Gulf Coast and Miami will bring full women's teams. Two more squads will be added in the diving portion of the meet with Clemson and Miami's men's team.

The meet mocks the NCAA Championship's with a prelim/final format. However, this meet will have three heats of finals - bonus, consolation and championship, with the Top 20 in each event earning points for their teams. Finals on Friday and Saturday will begin at 6 p.m., while prelims will start on Sunday at 9 a.m. with finals to follow at 3 p.m.

"This is what it takes to be a good team," Harper said. "We've got to be good over the course of three days. We have to swim hard in morning and be better at night. This meet is going to see what we have. It's like a preview for ACC's in February. It's a good challenge and good test and we will see what kind of individuals we have during the course of this big meet."
