TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Following her first weekend of competition this season senior Ariel Rittenhouse was named ACC Diver of the Week on Monday. Rittenhouse captured three first places and aided the Seminoles in a trio of team victories against Miami, Florida Atlantic and Florida International on Friday and Saturday.
“I was very impressed with Ariel’s performance,” head diving coach Patrick Jeffrey said. “She’s getting back to her form and it’s really showing. It’s great to see that Rittenhouse smile, back on her face.”
In Friday’s dual against in-state rival Miami, Rittenhouse finished first on the 3-meter board, edging out the Hurricanes’ Lindsay Lester, with a score of 335.25.
Less than 16 hours later, Rittenhouse performed even better as she swept both boards against Florida International and Florida Atlantic. On 3-meter, the Santa Cruz, Calif. native scored a total of 361.75. It’s her best score as a Seminole and just four points off the FSU school record which was set during the 2010-11 season by Lisi Rowland at 365.65.
“I feel that her accomplishments at Summer Nationals were the turning point,” Jeffrey said. “She’s using that performance to fuel her and we’re going to see a lot more great things from her. This is just the tip of the iceberg.”
Rittenhouse and both swimming and diving squads will travel to Durham, N.C. on Saturday, Oct. 27 for a tri-meet against Duke and Virginia Tech. The meet will start at 11 a.m. For more information, check back to Seminoles.com, Twitter (@FSU_Swimming) and Facebook throughout the weekend.
