TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State swimming and diving teams hit the road again this weekend for its first of two back-to-back dual meet weekends.  On Friday at 4 p.m., the women will face Miami in Coral Gables, Fla.  before both squads combine to face Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton, Fla. at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

“There is nothing like this rivalry,” head coach Neil Harper said.  “This weekend the girls are excited to travel to Miami and go against the ’Canes.  The freshmen are new to this this rivalry and they will get to see what it’s like first hand and I’m pumped for it.  Miami has some fast individuals and great divers and we look forward to this weekend’s competition and races.”

After starting the season 1-0 with a victory against Florida Gulf Coast, the Seminole women will open conference competition against an in-state rival for the second straight season.  The Noles have the edge in the series against the Hurricanes at 24-11.

During their season-opening victory, the Seminoles recorded wins in 13 of the 16 events, notching key individual performances from junior Julia Henkel as well as sophomores Kaitlyn Dressel and Elizabeth Pepper. All three ladies recorded multiple victories, leading the attack on the Eagles as Florida State picked up its sixth straight victory against FGCU with a score of 173-122.

After finishing fourth at the All-Florida Invitational, the Hurricanes are 1-1 in dual meets this season, as they dropped their first meet to Florida Gulf Coast before rebounding to pick up a win against Houston in their home opener.

About 16 hours after facing Miami, the Florida State women will join the men’s team for the first combined dual meet of the season. This dual meet will be the first matchup for the men this season and the first competition since the All-Florida Invite which was held back on Sept. 28-30. For both Owl squads, this is the first dual meet of the 2012-13 campaign.

The women’s team will swim a tri-meet against FAU and the host team Florida International.

Both Florida State teams are undefeated against Florida Atlantic as the women have a 6-0 record and the men are 19-0 against the Owls. The women are also undefeated against the Panther (8-0).

“They’re finally excited to go against a common opponent,” Harper said.  “A lot of our guys are familiar with their team, especially the Florida kids.  They’ve had a great three or four weeks of training and they’re anxious to compete. We’re ready for a weekend of fast swimming in south Florida. It’s going to be so great, non-stop competition and hopefully we can come away with all wins and head to cheer on the Noles at the football game at the end of the day. “
