TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- Florida State’s first year head coach Frank Bradley recently announced the swimming and diving 2013-14 schedule, which features four home meets at the Morcom Aquatic Center, including Atlantic Coast Conference opponents NC State, Georgia Tech and Miami.
The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will return to Greensboro, N.C. for the ACC Championships, looking to improve on a pair of fourth-place finishes in 2013. The women’s swimming and both diving teams will compete in the ACC Championships Feb. 19-22, while men’s swimming will take place the following week, Feb. 26-March 1.
“Our schedule will provide us with excellent competition and opportunities to race against some of the top teams in the ACC and NCAA throughout the season,” Bradley said. “Consistent development and improvement as the weeks roll by will put us on that platform to perform at a level that will have us racing at the top of the conference and the country.”
The Seminoles will open their inaugural season under Bradley, a Florida State graduate, at the All-Florida Invite in Gainesville, Fla.,Sept. 27-29.
Florida State will host NC State and Georgia Tech on Oct. 25 in the first combined home meet of the season. The FSU women will actually open their home schedule, a week earlier against Florida Gulf Coast on Oct. 18 in the annual ‘Paint It Pink’ meet.
The women’s team will close the regular season at home against rival Miami on Feb. 2.
Florida State hits the road to compete against a pair of Southeastern Conference schools this season, travelling to Alabama on Oct. 12. The Seminoles will open the second portion of their schedule at in-state rival Florida on Jan. 4. 2014. The FSU women upset No. 11 Florida at the Morcom Aquatic Center for the third time in school history, 157-143.
The Seminoles will take on three other state teams, with the women competing in their first dual meet at West Florida on Oct. 11. Both squads will also host Florida Atlantic on Jan. 17.
“Our in-state schedule always brings out the best pre-championships racing for our squad,” Bradley said. “The change in dates with our traditional meets against UF and Miami will fall in line with the championship season preparation as we quickly progress towards ACC and NCAA [competition].”
Bradley, the associate head coach at Auburn for four seasons, will return to his old stomping grounds when Florida State travels to Auburn, Ala. to compete in the Mid-Season Invite on Nov. 22-24.
The University of Minnesota will host the 2014 Women’s NCAA Championships (March 20-22), while the University of Texas will welcome the Men’s NCAA Championships (March 27-29).
Florida State divers will also compete in the 2014 USA Diving Nationals (Dec. 17-22) at Texas.
