TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- Florida State swimming and diving announced on Wednesday that assistant coach Katy Peterson has accepted the head coaching position at Widener University in Chester, Penn.
"It's a happy and sad day," FSU head coach Neil Harper said. "It's a great opportunity for Katy. I think her experience at Florida State has given her the chance to shine. I'm confident she will be able to achieve great things and Widener's student-athletes now have someone who can take their program to great heights.
Under the tutelage of Peterson during the last three seasons, 11 swimmers earned a trip to the NCAA Championships including two-time honorable mention All-American Stephanie Sarandos. Peterson also helped 11 swimmers qualify for the 2012 Olympic Trials, and helped train swimmers who broke 35 school records.
"Katy's done great things here at Florida State," Harper said. "We will start an immediate search for a replacement and I'm confident we'll find someone who is not only a great coach, but who is excited to be a part of the Florida State swimming and diving family."
