Tallahassee, Fla.- Florida State divers Scott Derner and Katie Sirounis were honored Tuesday winning ACC Performer of the Week honors for their performances against UNC-Wilmington and North Florida on Saturday.
"I'm really excited for both of them because they've both been working really hard," said diving coach Patrick Jeffrey. "I expect them both to continue to have an impact on this team as the season goes along."
A junior from Grapevine, Texas, Derner posted career best scores on both the one meter and three meter boards as the 23rd ranked Seminoles defeated UNC Wilmington, 130-104. He scored 336 points on the 1-meter board and tallied 372.75 on the 3-meter. Both scores were also NCAA zone qualifying marks and currently rank fifth (3m) and eighth (1m) in the ACC.
"It's so nice to see a kid like Scott rewarded this way because he's one of the most dedicated divers on the team," said Jeffrey. "He works very hard and he puts his full effort into everything. He's developing quite nicely."
Sirounis (Indian Harber Beach, Fla.), registered two victories in No. 20 Florida State's victories over UNC Wilmington, 144-87, and North Florida, 146-84. The sophomore won the 1-meter with a score of 253.10 points, and posted an NCAA zone qualifying mark (271.55) on the 3-meter to make it a sweep.
"I'm looking for Katie to be a real factor this year because her consistency has gone way up," said Jeffrey. "It's really nice to see that it is all working out for her."
The Seminoles will be back in action on Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. as FSU takes on LSU at home at the Bobby E. Leach Center Pool.
