TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State men and women's track and field team were impressive in their first road meet of the season as they traveled across town to compete in the FAMU Relays. The Seminoles dominated the relay competitions taking first place in every relay event they competed. The women's distance relay team of Allison Lind, Laura Gerber, Natalie Hughes, and Vicky Gill ran away with the race finishing in a time of 11:47.95, almost one minute and thirty seconds ahead of the second place team from Grambling State University. In the men's distance relay, the Tribe swept the top three spots with the 'A' relay team finishing in a time of 10:11.07. The Seminoles went on to win both the men and women's 4x100m and 4x800m relay races as well as the women's 1600m sprint medley relay in a time of 4:09.52.
In the individual races, Florida State finished at the top in both the men and women's 100m dash and 110m hurdle events. For the men, Craphonso Thorpe took the prelims of the 100m dash in a time of 10.55, then in the finals on Saturday afternoon took first place with a time of 10.57. Danyne Brown captured the men's 110m hurdle event with his time of 14.42. On the women's side, the Seminoles finished one-two in the 100m dash with Kim Walker leading the way with her top time of 12.09 followed by fellow teammate Marla Jackson in second at 12.29. Lakendra McColumn won the 100m hurdle event for the Garnet and Gold with her time of 13.72.
Other top individual track performers for the Seminoles over the weekend included sophomore Sydney Mondragon in the 800m run. She won the event after finishing in a time of 2:19.80. Junior Misty Harper and sophomore Anne Clinton accumulated first and second place finishes, respectively in the 3000m run for FSU. Junior Pete Prato came in third in the men's 400m hurdle competition after running in a time of 54.46.
For the Seminoles in the field events, the men's Jared Sweetser and Gary Visser shared fourth placed after establishing a mark of 14' 11.5" (4.56m) in the pole vault competition. Kyler Hall was the top performer for the Seminoles in the men's javelin throw finishing third with a mark of 169' 03" (51.59m). Gary Visser also competed in the javelin placing sixth after his throw of 145' 07" (44.38m).
