Phil Steele has been counting down his top 40 college football teams over the past month and Tuesday marked the culmination of the countdown with the announcement that Florida State is No. 1.
In his magazine, which has already been available for purchase, Steele has FSU winning the national championship.

It should be noted, however, that Steele's depth chart is off in some places -- particularly on the offensive line. He has FSU's projected starters on the line as being Daniel Glauser (LT), Jacob Fahrenkrug (LG), Bryan Stork (C), Garrett Faircloth (RG) and Bobby Hart (RT).
But FSU actually ended spring practices with a much different look up front -- one that has a good shot of remaining steady throughout fall camp and into the Sept. 1 opener against Murray State.
FSU's line entering the fall will likely look like this: Cameron Erving (LT), Josue Matias (LG), Austin Barron (C), Tre' Jackson (RG) and Bryan Stork (RT). The biggest battle will be between Hart and Stork at right tackle.
On defense, Steele has Karlos Williams listed as a starter at safety but the sophomore speedster will enter the 2012 season as the back-up to Terrence Brooks.
