A source close to the University of Akron has confirmed that former NFL defensive back, Terrell Buckley will join newly hired coach Terry Bowden's Zips staff.
It will be the second member of Bowden's coaching staff with direct ties to his father, Bobby Bowden. Buckley, before a 13-year career in the NFL as a cornerback, played for Florida State, where the elder Bowden served as head coach.
Buckley will leave his alma mater, where he serves as a volunteer assistant, to coach cornerbacks for the Zips.
During his professional career, Buckley grabbed 50 interceptions and won two Super Bowls with the New England Patriots.
Mike Woodford, a former special teams coordinator with Illinois, will coach the safeties. Woodford, a Niles native, was the secondary coach for the Zips from 1986-91 and defensive coordinator for Walsh University from 1994-98.
Jeff Bowden, Terry's brother, will join him from North Alabama to coach the wide receivers.
Rounding out the first round of coaching additions is A.J. Milwee, who was a graduate assistant at North Alabama. He will coach the quarterbacks.
The quartet join a staff that already includes former North Carolina State head coach Chuck Amato, who will be the defensive coordinator.
