After his terrific performance in FSU's 35-30 loss to Clemson last Saturday, Clint Trickett earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors the conference announced Monday afternoon.
Trickett made his first career start at No. 21 Clemson and delivered the best performance by a first-time starting quarterback for the Seminoles since Danny Kanell (1993 at Maryland). The redshirt freshman completed 24 of 38 attempts for 336 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was intercepted once. The son of FSU offensive line coach Rick Trickett tossed a pair of second half touchdown passes - 30 yards to Rashad Greene and 9 yards to Kenny Shaw - and threw for 203 yards after intermission as the Seminoles rallied from a 21-10 halftime deficit. He also tossed a 57-yard TD pass to Rodney Smith in the first half. The 336 passing yards were the most by an FSU quarterback this season. Trickett now leads the team with seven TD passes. His performance while filling in for injured starter EJ Manuel was even more impressive when you consider the Seminoles were without three of their top receivers due to injury. Overall, Trickett's first start numbers were the best by a Seminole quarterback since Kanell passed for 341 yards and 5 touchdowns at Maryland on Nov. 6, 1993 in a 49-20 win while filling in for eventual Heisman Trophy winner Charlie Ward.
In today's Monday Morning Quarterback on SI.com, Peter King talks about former FSU quarterback Christian Ponder, who is now Donovan McNabb's backup in Minnesota.
Here's what King had to say:
"The bad news: The Vikings have been ahead by 10, 17 and 20 at halftime in their three games -- and lost every one. Imagine outscoring teams 54-7 in the first half and being outscored 67-6 in the second half. Six points in six quarters ... all that's going to do is increase the cries for Christian Ponder to replace Donovan McNabb. Too early now, but coach Leslie Frazier will have to do something if the Vikings keep wasting credible defensive efforts like they've had so far. Great line by columnist Jim Souhan in the Minneapolis Star Tribune this morning: "It's time for the Vikings to start thinking of "Ponder'' as a noun, not a verb.''"
A special shout-out to all the "choppers" out there. We are cruising along I-85 North towards Greenville and the team hotel and we are getting lots of honks and tomahawk chops from FSU fans on the same route.
If you see the Road Warriors, be sure to give us a wave, a chop, a honk, or whatever!
The Road Warriors are getting close to Clemson, SC, but first, we had a very important lunch stop to make. Most of us Road Warriors here at Seminoles.com are big Chick-fil-A fans, so we only thought it fitting to stop there for lunch.
This was no ordinary Chick-fil-A, however. This is the Dwarf House, a special restaurant with all sorts of extra items on the menu. Did you know they had chili at Chick-fil-A? We sure didn't!
The Road Warriors are officially on the road again, this time to Clemson, SC. We left bright and early on Friday morning from Doak Campbell Stadium and will have plenty of coverage from along the road. Facebook, twitter, make sure you follow along!
As of 10:45 a.m. on Friday morning, we just got onto I-75 on the way to Atlanta but had a quick stop to make at the famous Stripling's general store.

Expectations are always high at Florida State. But this year the buzz is just a little different.
Much has been made about the hype and excitement for the Seminoles' 2011 campaign and it all gets started on Saturday.
Thursday, SI.com released its "Crystal Ball" feature where the company's college football experts make their predictions for the coming year. Well, if you didn't think that the FSU buzz extends to the national level, here is your visual proof.
Of the eight experts featured in the story, all of them have FSU playing in a BCS bowl game this year. Bill Trocchi has the Seminoles winning the national title.
Sports Illustrated's Andy Staples' "non-traditional" Heisman list (i.e. no quarterbacks, running backs or wide receivers) features FSU star defensive end Brandon Jenkins.
Staples thinks that Jenkins is one of six non-QBs, RBs or WRs in the nation that deserve some Heisman hype.
